The Lady Sandite volleyball team ruined senior night for Sapulpa, beating the Lady Chieftains in straights sets. The Class 6A No. 15-ranked Charles Page High School volleyball team beat rival Sapulpa, 3-0, in the Highway 97 Rivalry, Tuesday at the Chieftain Center. CPHS won 25-12, 25-11 and 25-21, giving the Lady Sandites a 21-13 record on the season. Junior middle blocker Gloria Mutiri lurked around the net and ended with a team-high 20 kills, eight digs and four blocks. “I love how we played consistent and everyone did their jobs pretty well,” Mutiri said. “We definitely have things to work on in practice, but it was a good win for us. We worked hard to not to let (Sapulpa) have a set. We really needed that for our confidence after losing to Collinsville.” Deveree Youngblood had five kills, and Holly Kersgieter and Cypert had two each. As a team, CPHS had 13 aces, and Youngblood and Madison Burris recorded a team-high four each. Mutiri had three aces, and Kersgieter and Kenzie Ward added one each. Kersgieter’s serves were impressive to start the first set, and it set the tone of the match. The final set was the closest at 25-21, but the win was never really jeopardy. The Highway 97 Rivalry doesn’t just apply to football. “Every win against Sapulpa is awesome. It doesn’t matter what sport,” Mutiri said. Before the match, the Lady Sandites chanted “Swift Strong” in memory of CPHS graduate Swift Myer who died of cancer Friday, Sept. 23. “I thought we played with great team work and overall consistency,” Kersgieter said. “Most importantly, we represented Sand Springs well by showing support for our friend Swift Myers.”
