THE SAPULPA BASEBALL TEAM WRAPPED UP SPRING BREAK WITH A 4-1 RECORD

The Sapulpa Baseball team wrapped up Spring Break with a 4-1 record an appearance in the Championship game of the Verdigris Tournament late Saturday evening. Thursday (3/15) vs. Edison The Chieftains improved to 8-2 on the season by beating Tulsa Edison at home by a score of 8-5. Cody Rossman picked up his 3rd win of the season on the pitcher's mound allowing 2 runs through 3 innings and striking out 4 Eagle hitters. The offensive charge for Sapulpa was led by Gage Williams and his 3 hits and 2 RBI's, and Wyatt Sellers hitting his 1st home run of the season. Rees Kidd earned his 2nd save of the season working 2 innings of relief and allowing 1 run while striking out 2. Thursday (3/22) vs. Tulsa Memorial in Verdigris Tournament Moving the overall record to 9-2, Sapulpa took down Tulsa Memorial to open the Verdigris Tournament by a score of 6-3. Wyatt Sellers picked up the win on the mound moving his record to 3-0 by throwing 3 shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out 4. Led offensively by Alan Shibley hitting his first home run of the season and driving in 3 runs, the Chieftains collected 7 total hits and were awarded 11 walks by the Chargers. Friday (3/23) vs. Cushing- Verdigris Tournament Winning their 10th game of the season, Sapulpa defeated Cushing by a score of 9-6. An offensive battle, the Chieftains recorded 7 team hits, led by Wyatt Sellers' 2nd home run of the season. Coleson Coffey and Alan Shibley both hit doubles and recorded 2 RBI's respectively. Andrew Merrihew started on the mound, and was relieved by Garrett Estes, Coleson Coffey, and Rees Kidd. Estes picked up the win, and Kidd recorded his 3rd save of the season. Friday (3/23) vs. Verdigris - Verdigris Tournament In a hotly contested matchup, the Chieftains prevailed over the host team Verdigris by a score of 9-4 late Friday night. Cooper Bailey and Jacob Esch combined to hand Verdigris it's second loss of the season by throwing 6 innings and allowing just 3 hits while striking out 10 Cardinal batters. Entering the 6th inning tied 4-4, the Sapulpa offense exploded for 5 runs highlighted by Gage Williams' 3-RBI triple, and Coleson Coffey's 2 doubles and 4 RBI's. Saturday (3/24) vs. Tahlequah - Championship Verdigris Tournament Playing their 4th game in 3 days, the Chieftain offense ran out of gas in the finals of the Verdigris Tournament. The Tahlequah offense erupted for 11 runs on 14 hits before the Chieftains could muster 2 runs late in the game. Gage Williams continued his torrid streak totaling 2 more hits, raising his season batting average to .556 and totaling 25 RBI's through just 15 games. The Chieftains look to improve on their 11-3-1 record when they travel to Shawnee Monday for a District matchup where they hold a 3-1 district record.
